Desktop and Mobile Users (backing up directly to the ATC DATA VAULT)

ATC Backup is an automated, managed service based on online backup software technology which intelligently backs up data from a company’s desktops and laptops to one of our secure ATC Storage servers located in our state of the art data centre. Safely off-site, the encrypted data is professionally managed and available online at all times for immediate recovery. ATC Desktop and Mobile backup is easy to download and install and requires no additional hardware.

ATC Backup also enables remote users to automatically back up data immediately on connection, using a network activity monitor to establish a secure connection to the remote data server. While a user is remote, they also have full secure access to their backup set through ATC WebAccess.

Desktop, laptop and Mobile Users (with offsite mirror)

The option is available for desktops and laptops to be backed up to a dedicated server located within the client’s infrastructure backing up over the local network. This data is then mirrored to an offsite storage server.

Administrators have the functionality to be able to do file exclusions and selections to eliminate backup up of non critical data.  

Server Edition

ATC Backup Server Edition protects critical business data in a distributed environment, providing a secure and automated solution. ATC Backup provides an efficient and automated backup coupled with a method of recovery that is fast and robust, also offering remote data access and data archiving. ATC Backup focuses on trust, security, scalability, centralised management, ease of use and end-to-end coverage.

ATC Backup Server Edition provides a file based backup for corporate data stored on servers and databases, which also includes support for Open File Manager, and uses SnapShot technology to handle large data volume transfers on initial backup and full retrieval of data. The software also supports Microsoft Shadow Copy Services (VSS) to backup open files. VSS is currently available on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. This replaces the need for Open File Manager.

Adding to its features and functionality, ATC Backup Server Edition also supports popular databases and applications offering seamless integration with these databases and applications and enables online operations that do not eliminate end user access to data. Agents available are, MS Exchange, MS SQL Server, Lotus Notes, Sybase, Oracle, and GroupWise.

Offsite Backups

Two options are available:

1. Backup directly to the ATC Data vault, which in turn is mirrored off-site to a secure server.

2. Backup directly to a local server then mirror offsite to ATC Data vault, which again is mirrored off-site to a secure server.

Option 1

All servers within the client infrastructure can be backed up directly to the ATC Data vault. This will ensure that the client has a second copy of the data offsite in the case of disaster recovery.

Option 2

A further option is to backup all local servers to a local dedicated storage server which can be supplied on a rental basis by ATC. All data backup up from these servers to the local storage server will then be mirrored to the ATC data vault located in Rivonia.

Data on the local storage server is compressed and encrypted, using 448-bit encryption. ATC Server Backup makes use of the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol standard for secure data transmission to the ATC data vault.

Initial backups however will be done by means of an initial snapshot of the data which is then physically taken to the data vault. Thereafter only the daily changes are sent across the line resulting in minimum bandwidth utilisation.

Server Rental

ATC will provide the customer with an optional server if a copy of the backed up data is required to be kept locally.
